BRIEF HISTORY OF COUNSELLING ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (CASSON) ANAMBRA STATE CHAPTER
Anambra State Chapter of CASSON is a branch of the national body of Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON), which held its first preliminary and inaugural meetings on November 15th and June 17th, 1976, respectively.
Anambra State Chapter was founded in 1991 after the creation of the state through the efforts of Prof. Mercy Aku Anagbogu and Dr. Nkeiruka Bernadette Nwoye (the pioneer state coordinator), who laid a solid foundation for guidance and counselling services in particular in today's Anambra State secondary schools.
Prof. Mercy Aku Anagbogu became the first chairperson of the Anambra State Chapter of Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON).
There were indeed laudable accomplishments during her tenure. Many workshops and seminars were held, including ones aimed at building capacity and upgrading the knowledge of guidance counsellors from various sectors in the state.
